In the UK, we eat much more salt then we need. A high level of salt in the diet can have a negative impact on blood pressure. We should be having no more that 6 grams a day and even this is too much.
Ways to intake less salt:
- Cut down on processed foods that contain a lot of salt
- Don't add salt to your food at the table
- Cook without adding any salt
You will find that, within a few weeks, your taste buds will adapt to a diet with less salt. For cooking, why not use garlic, extra pepper, herbs, spices or lemon juice to add flavour as alternatives.
